I saw Split today. Good movie, but very disturbing and unsettling. (Spoilers)
Finally, M Night Shyamalan makes another good movie. (His last good film was Signs, 15 years ago.) I enjoyed this movie, but at the same time I had a hard time getting through it. I think this one almost could have gotten an R rating; the material and themes were mature enough that they almost warranted an R rating IMO.

I thought James McAvoy was brilliant. He gave the performance of a lifetime. I never thought he could be so scary in a movie. I'm used to seeing him as Mr. Tumnus in Narnia, and young Professor Xavier in X-Men as well as a few chick flicks. So this role was a complete 180 of what I've come to expect from him.

I was expecting a twist, but the movie was surprisingly straight forward. The only real twist was the obvious tie in to Unbreakable at the end. It almost made me sick to my stomach that Casey was rescued at the end and then had to go back to live with her uncle who had been sexually abusing her for many years. Not exactly a happy ending. Btw, do you think her uncle killed her dad earlier, and claimed he died of a heart attack? It seemed like they were insinuating that. I was also not expecting the cannibalism part. That was a bit of a curve ball.

Also, if any of you have teenage daughters, I would recommend not letting them watch this movie. They'd probably have nightmares for weeks.
