Very true. Hence my decoder ring:
I will admit to getting sucked in to this kind of stuff, particularly early in my Internet Fanfanhood

It doesn't mean none of it's true, it's just as you say – – we make some of the same claims every year.

I've found that the more player specific stuff, the better the off-season is actually going. When that stuff is based around the speed, power, and athleticism of key cogs, it becomes safer to be a bit more bullish.

People were talking about how Austin C made the other receivers look uncoordinated with his route running and that he caught absolutely everything. They were right. People raved about Todd Watkins and his speed. They were right there too. The reports about Fui looking like he had returned from the golds gym mission were also predictive of great things on the field.

Sometimes you get a well-worn source to really stick their neck out and claim a position group or sometimes an entire side of the ball will be dominant. More often than not, they either turn out to be right or there are enough positives where you can see why the claim was made.

Right now, I am maintaining hopeful optimism, which is pretty much par for the course during spring ball.

Once fall ball comes around, I will be hoping to hear tales of how a ton of off-season of work has clearly paid off between the quarterback and wide receivers. I'll be looking for reputable pundits to stake a claim that one or two past catchers will assume a starring role. I'm hoping to hear about a star player or two emerging on the D line and that ability to rush the passer is part of that equation. And I'm hoping for a couple slobbering love affair pieces about the depth and physicality that BYU needs having finally arrived on the O line.

In the meantime, it's fun to hear about some new faces, and updates on the team are generally enjoyable regardless of time of year. The subjective tales about unity and chemistry, etc. will continue to be taken with copious grains of salt
