I picked up a group of guys from Caesar's Palace who told me they were on Spring Break but were finishing their degrees at the University of Arizona. I mentioned something about "Bear Down" and the entire car erupted in the fight Arizona fight song. When it got to the part near the end where they say, "Go! Go! Wildcats, Go!" they started screaming "(Expletive)! (Expletive)! (Expletive) BYU!" Then when the song was over, they continued, rolling down the windows and cursing BYU and talking about how much they hate the Cougars.
I thought for a minute that maybe I was wearing a piece of BYU gear or had a piece of BYU paraphernalia in my car. Nope. Nothing.
So, in the middle of the off-season, in a city that has nothing to do with BYU (other than having a decent Cougar fan base), and apropos of nothing, a group of Arizona students felt the need to start railing on BYU. I thought it was very strange. I didn't say anything about being a Cougar fan because I didn't want a 1 star driver rating. But the memory of winning that game in September, the way we did, and imagining their reactions made that trip a little better.
