It is VERY hard on family members. My dad had always been a very good husband, but hit my mom a few times with Alzheimers. He was also kicked out of a facility for slapping an elderly woman patient. (Apparently got confused thinking she had stolen something) Her family threatened to sue, but I don't think they had much of a case.
