Nah. He was out to prepare his kids for real life.

He often quoted the stats of how many never make it and how many are out of the NFL in <4 years. I think there was a touch of pride in it but mostly and honest desire to help prepare kids for life and not just the NFL. I think he pushed the pendulum too far in that regard but I think it was out of a desire to buck the dishonest, abusive, exploitative nature of the NFL culture.
