Double Tight End and Bruising backs are reason for optimism!
Yes, it is way too early to get hyped over a scrimmage. The result of the bright spots on offense will inevitably lead to unbounded optimism in 5 months.

My first annual Rill Dill award goes to:

Bushman. Yes, he is the Rill Dill. My fam knows their fam in Tucson. I also knew Chad Lewis (high school, MTC, BYU). The comparison is warranted.

Pututau adds a great semi-proven depth to the position.

The only person more excited than me about running a double Tight End offense is probably Ty Detmer.

O-line is deeper. The needle has moved from concerned to hopeful.

Mangum was not great or bad at the scrimmage but should have been close to great. The needle for me dipped a hair in the optimistic range.

That said, the 6'6" kid from Southern Utah really impressed me with his arm. Give him 2 years with Ty and Strength and Conditioning and he could be somebody in a Detmer offense.

Running backs did not show a lot for various reasons. If Tolutau rumors persist through Fall then all objectivity will be gone. Double Tight Ends with a bruising north-south every down back will smash the protective shell of past over-hype and subsequent let-down.

Receivers did not show a lot. I don't see any Rill Dills but young potential. The needle remains at concerned.

The defense looks deep and stout. We certainly look better overall.

The D-line is deeper than I can ever remember. What we lose on the top end is made up for by depth. I have moved the needle from optimistic to confident.

Linebackers are very solid. Hopefully we are deep enough for a good rotation. The needle remains at confident.

Corners seem to be improved. The needle remains at optimistic and is a hair from confident.

Safety did not give me warm fuzzies. The needle remains at concerned.

In all, Tight End looks to explode. Receiver is a concern. Defense looks improved over a very solid group last year. If we have a bruising new running back and Tanner can make the reads Ty needs to run his offense then we are in for a fun year. I am going to watch the Michigan game so I can stay grounded for the next 155 days.
