In the UK, at least in my experience, that is the norm. The previews/commercials
Start when the movie is supposed to start and last about 30 minutes.
They include trailers for movies and commercials for things like laundry detergents. It was annoying because watching a 2 hour movie actually became athe least a 2.5 hour movie if you showed up on time.
