also don't put up with annoying things just because of some fantasized resale issue (within reason). That said, avoid wallpaper! It goes in and out of style and is a pain in the neck to remove. Just paint and accessorize for decor purposes that will be easier to change.

If it's permenant/architectural thing, stick with neutral and classic. If it's an accessory and easily changed, do whatever fits your style.
