So just met with my accountant yesterday and once again in a bit of shock. My wife and father have both suggested maybe talking to another accountant. Almost 1/2 of my income is 1099 income that I put through an LLC. I try to find legitimate business uses for items we buy, keep track of mileage, make a business purpose for travel we do, etc. Probably going to take advantage of the "SUV loophole" this year. So I feel like I'm fairly aggressive with legal ways to save on taxes. I'm comfortable with my accountant (an old acquaintance from High School) and he owns the firm that does the taxes for my main business, of which I'm a partner so it is helpful that he understands all aspects of my finances.
So am I off that a different accountant isn't going to know of "secret" ways to save more on taxes? I'm assuming it is all about how far into the gray you are willing to go?
Also realize that all the reputable accountants will not be on cougarboard for another couple weeks.
