Went fishing for smallmouth this morning in the Columbia River Gorge.
Cool day at about 47 degrees when I got there. The peaks immediately across the river on the Oregon side still have snow on them. The water below Bonneville Dam was high and off-color, but fortunately the water level and clarity above the dam were good.

I caught five smallies in about 2 hours. A couple were about a pound and three probably went two pounds. I lost one that I figure was 3 pounds.

It's almost prime time for smallies. Two years ago at the very end of April, my younger two boys and I hit it just right. We drove up there after school and fished for less than two hours and caught over 40 fish. This year has been cool and wet. Hopefully it will warm up soon. Once the spawn starts, the fishing really gets good.
