Honor code is a pretty legit excuse. A lot of people would prefer to not live the honor code. Even LDS athletes
who don't mind not drinking coffee, alcohol, etc may not be all that keen on the haircuts and no beards policies or not being allowed to hang out at a girl's apartment after 10 or any number of things.
Not wanting to live the honor code isn't a "go-to" excuse. It's real for a lot of athletes.
