As the Westinghouse bankruptcy, which I worked on briefly, has shown. The biggest reason is the incredibly high initial costs for nuclear facilities which makes them unattractive in the face of cheap natural gas and generally low energy prices.

I wish nuclear would get some of the same benefits that wind, solar, etc. got as it has the capacity to produce huge amounts of energy without carbon emissions, but for now new nuclear projects just aren't competitive.
