70 percent of the NFL is African American, while Whites and Polys make up the
remaining 30 percent. Now compare those demographics to BYU's roster and tell me if you see any difference?
In the late 1960's this was reversed. 70 percent of the league was white. So it would make sense that BYU's highest years in the draft were I believe 1981 and 85, just 10-15 years removed from those demographics and coinciding with successful seasons.
It's a different game today. It's actually similar to NBA numbers now regarding African American dominance. Same reason we struggle to have guys in the NBA.
Interestingly, look at the percentage of our relatively small number of African Americans on our rosters that we have sent to the NFL. Pretty high. It's no coincidence.
