real person. I imagine he carries a fair amount of baggage living in Utah and being a well known name in college football in the area and much of that is probably negative. And from every interview or second hand interaction i have heard, he carries that like a champ. No visible signs of bitterness or resentment toward BYU or its fans. Which is very impressive. Like all cougar fans, i still feel traumatized by the 2010- 2012 seasons and what could have been vs what actually happened. And though there are a lot of variables besides Nelson in that equation, he was a major factor in the way all three seasons turned out. It's easy to reduce a guy like him to some fictional character whose ego drove a wedge in a locker room, sabotaged a cocky freshman and somehow tricked coaches into playing him with a broken spine or whatever. The more I hear him speak, the more I like him and the more foolish and guilty i feel for harboring ill feelings against a guy who did his best, gave us multiple great moments and gave more to the program that I love than i ever did. I can understand why other players from the past with similar baggage stay out of the spotlight. But after hearing the Walsh interview from a few weeks ago, i hope that they can see the value of telling their version of the story. I would love to hear an in depth interview of Heaps or Engeman or Berry. The more detail and perspective we as fans can get about the good times and the bad times, the better we can evaluate and appreciate the past
