where the purpose of spring ball is not in the least bit about establishing depth charts. It's a chance to see what others can do. I think Squally is easily the guy. Doesn't mean he gets 220 carries. Not at all. But he's the best feature tailback. I don't think it's really a big competition, but will be a competition for coaches to figure out how to utilize each guy with Squally as what you'd have as your typical feature back.
That's just me, but he clearly showed it in his first full season. Got to learn from Jamaal, played well, and now it's his turn. He spent the year emphasizing ball security after learning from Jamaal. This season he should be able to do it with without thinking so much. Everything will be more natural. He really played well when he got his share. And now he's a year older, a year in the system, bigger, more confident.
I do think the depth is open. Right now there's absolutely not a #2. So we'll have to see who can help Squally and how. Plenty of carries though. No more QB stealing a ton of them.
