I'm not a law expert. But I don't believe freedom of religion is being violated here. The constitution protects the citizens from the government. And in this case, it protects religion from the government. Since the NCAA is not a government entity, it can attempt to force BYU to play on Sunday. However, it would be poor form and poor PR for them to do this because there are 2-3 other teams with similar requests for exemptions. And the backlash the NCAA would receive to force a forfeit by BYU due to religious requests for exemptions would be more than the NCAA would wish to encounter. So I'd doubt it ever will happen. But freedom of religion is not being violated because the NCAA is a private entity.
