While I did not love Scouting as a young man, and questioned its value for our sons, I still was concerned that there was something there I needed as a father. When I complained to the bishop about the state of the program, he began grooming me to take it over. In time, I became converted to it. I could plainly see what Scouting could do for all young men, how it could help them become well directed, better citizens, and even to prepare for missions. Scouting programs certainly depend on good leaders; however, parental involvement is very important, as well. I loved working with our sons through Scouting.
