All this talk of BYU going to a regional in Corvallis has got me thinking
Oregon State has been ranked #1 for weeks now.. They put the P12 title away several weeks ago (they are one of the few conferences that don't have a conference tournament). Going to Corvallis would be a huge challenge for BYU.

Oregon State has won two national titles in baseball, in 2006 and 2007. They made the CWS in 2005 but lost their firsts two games and were eliminated (this was Jacoby Ellsbury's senior year). In 2006 they were highly ranked all year and ended up returning to the CWS and winning the title. 2007 was a different story. They were a relatively mediocre team pretty much all year. They finished middle-of-the-pack in the P12 with a losing record in conference play, and there was quite a bit of question whether they would even make the NCAA Tournament field. They did make the field--some say primarily because they were the defending champions--and were shipped to a regional in Virginia. They lost their 2nd game in the regionals to Virginia, but after that something "clicked" with the team, and they never lost another game all the way to the title, beating Michigan 2 games to none in the super regional, before sweeping through the CWS undefeated, mostly by lopsided scores.

Why do I bring this up? There is no doubt the Corvallis Regional would be extremely difficult for BYU, but it seems to me that something may have "clicked" for the Cougars during the WCC Tournament. They've got their confidence and mojo back. They're hitting extremely well again, and even their pitching all weekend was very solid, despite having to play 5 games over the course of 3 days. Although I'm not ready to put BYU in anything close to the same category as some of the elite teams in the nation, including Oregon State, I do see some similarities between that 2007 Oregon State team and this year's BYU team. If they do go to Corvallis, I hope they go in with confidence and determination and a we've-got-nothing-to-lose attitude, and just see what they're able to accomplish.
