2015 profile of Ty Detmer in Esquire
Don't remember having read this before. Nice piece.

Thought this was interesting in response to comments that pop up sometimes:

And just to correct any misconceptions about the advantages of earning your paycheck without paying the physical price, Detmer will only comment that, "People think being a backup quarterback is the greatest job in the world. You don't have to take the hits. And it's pretty good until your number's called and you haven't had any reps with the first team and you're supposed to know it the way the starter knew it, and then it becomes the worst job in the world."

Regarding the Triton affair:

"All I've ever tried to do was do it the right way, and then this guy does it all wrong and screws people. Losing the money's losing the money, but the questions on your integrity were the hardest thing for me."

What's most impressive is that Detmer's found a way to make peace with the situation and not be leery of those outside his closest loved ones. "I probably didn't trust people as much," he says of the immediate aftermath. "But my wife and I talked a lot and fell back on our faith and grew even stronger in our faith. It's not the religion that did it. It's not the group of friends that did it. It's one guy."
