Landing those elite LDS players is always going to be difficult because kids get stars in their eyes. But creating depth in classes with 20+ 3 star prospects is huge. I trust Kalani and Lamb with the occasional "project" player who has certain attributes that they think they can develop. But signing a solid 3 star kid instead of signing the NR ILB from Alta HS because he is a BYU guy and they couldn't find anyone better is how you kill your depth in D1 football. Kalani & Co. are better pocketing the scholarship in case a transfer becomes available.
Look at a school like Wisconsin. They average 3-4 4 star recruits per class, but they aren't loaded with a bunch of elite prospects. They fill their classes up with solid prospects. BYU should be able to put together similar looking classes.
