For all those who are claiming that Hayward is likely to head to Boston, how
is the lower than expected salary cap going to play into Boston's ability to even give him a max deal?

When the salary cap was projected at $107 million, that would have given Boston about $35 million in cap room if they were to renounce all the cap holds, etc. on their free agents, which would be more than enough room to sign Hayward to a max deal (which would be around $32 million for the first year with that salary cap number).

Now that the salary cap came in at around $99 million, Boston's cap space is only sitting at around $27 million. With a max deal for Hayward being around $30 million, either he would have to take a paycut from Boston (which would equate to about $17 million less over 4 years than the Jazz could offer him), or Boston would have to shed some salary.

But does Boston's inability to offer a full max deal to Hayward at this point significantly hurt their chances of resigning him, or is the difference small enough to not have much of an impact?
