I used to think that, but with 22 starters (not including kickers and other special teams) it's hard for any one player
on an NFL roster to truly dominate the game. I know, you're probably saying the QB does indeed to that, but look at Andrew Luck and Joe Flaco. They aren't exactly doing too well due to the other 21 guys. The Patriots are good every year because they do a great job of balancing the need to pay Brady with the need to fill out the other 21 spots with quality guys.

Basketball is completely different. There's only five players on the floor. Look at the way Lebron and Shaq have dominated. Lebron got to the NBA finals essentially by himself his first go round in Cleveland. Shaq was essentially a one man army with the Lakers (I would say Kobe was good back then, but it was after Shaq left that Kobe blew up). One player really does make that big of a difference. Making it impossible to stack two dominant players (Steph and Durrant) is what would make the difference.
