I have a therory that Lucas didn't have things planned out as much as he said

he did. I don't think he had Vader as anakin skywalker or Luke's dad at first. Remember kenobi said Vader killed his father and then they had to backtrack. Lucas also had Luke crushing on leia and then they even kiss at one point. Then they backtrack on that too and they're siblings all the sudden.
