First of all, I don't go to rock concerts frequently, but I do enjoy listening to 70s and 80s rock from time to time. Alice Cooper came to El Paso for an outdoor concert this past weekend and tickets were only $30 so I decided to take a couple of my teenage sons who have listened to quite a bit of rock with me.
As some people stated in the related thread who are obviously much more versed in rock concerts, Alice Cooper does put on a true show for his concert.
Cooper was supposed to start at 10:30 p.m., but didn't start until around 10:45 p.m. I arrived early at around 8:00 p.m. to hear a prior band called Jackyl and check out the car show. Jackyl was not that great and frankly was just raunchy and there were not a lot of people there to hear them play. By around 10:00 p.m., the outdoor street area where the stage was began to fill up quickly. In fact, I was quite surprised how many people showed up to watch Alice Cooper perform. Suffice it to say, there was a very diverse group of people there for the concert, including a large number of people who I wouldn't want my daughter to date, based purely on appearances. There were a few of other clean-cut people there who didn't fit the typical rocker profile, like me and my boys.
By the time the concert started at 10:45 p.m., there were literally at least a couple thousand people, if not more, crammed into the area to watch the concert. Alice Cooper played literally non-stop for almost 2 hours all of his classic rock and roll hits for the last 40 years. I was shocked for how long the band members and Cooper were able to play. All of them gave 110% for the entire show and must have been exhausted afterward. Concert didn't end until around 12:30 a.m.
Many of the songs contained props and some form of reinactment, including use of a guilloitine for one song, a larger than life Frankenstein for another and zombie women in another. Alice Cooper changed his costume for almost every song.
There were thee other guitar players, but by far the most mesmerizing was a lady named Nita Strauss. Look her up. She was absolutely amazing and jammed on the guitar the entire night.
Overall, a very enjoyable show. The crowd, including me, really got into Poison and School's Out (final encore song, of course). This type of rock concert isn't for everyone, but if you really enjoy 70's and 80's rock, it is worth seeing Alice Cooper, who is already in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Did I mention that Cooper golfs 6 times a week and has a 2 handicap at the age of 69? Amazing.
