Yes, but it's not really all that different. You needed to clear any time off in
advance before so they could make sure there was coverage (at least I'm assuming you did - I've never had a job where you could just not show up one day because you decided to take vacation). The only difference now is they can technically say no because they don't owe you the time off. If that becomes a regular occurrence, then it's time to get a job somewhere else.
