Passing was an artform for Heaps, & he obviously knew how to impress coaches & evaluators with that ability & craft.
What Jake didn't have were:
(1) Athleticism. (And this hurt his mobility in & outa the pocket most of all. Obviously he wasn't gonna hurt a D w his legs--something that even Tanner can do a couple times a game.)
(2) Brains.
(3) Strength. He was a very weak 6'2" kid when he came outa HS.
(4) better than average size.
(5) Toughness ready to face the physical challenges of D1 ball as a Frosh. (Jake has proven his toughness in time, but it wasn't as ready to take off as a Frosh--as nearly all his evaluators thought.)
(6) Patience.
