Some fans simply have a preference for throwing deep and often. I think those people will ultimately be disappointed in Detmer because he seems to have learned from the NFL that having a dominant run game is more important to success than having a dominant long ball QB. But at any rate, that sector of fans will never like Hoge because he is a mobile QB and might run sometimes.

I was impressed by what Hoge did as a true frosh. I think he has a much stronger arm than Riley. His arm strength may be about on par with Taysom, actually. And Taysom is about to make an NFL roster (which the people bagging on Hoge said would never happen).

I would be happy to have Hoge as a 1-year QB running the same offense we ran in 2016. I just want to win as many games each year as possible. I'm not in favor of starting a sophomore in 2018 if there is a senior who is better. However, if Wilstead is better than Hoge in 2018, then start him by all means.
