...in 2003 and 2004 BYU played the two toughest back to back schedules in school history (#14 in '03 and #11 in '04) with a boat load of young inexperienced players. Crowton didn't manage a lot of things very well as HC but he did recruit some GREAT talent, a boatload of which went on to be BYU all-time greats and/or played in the NFL,.

By 2005 they were battle-hardened and just beginning to come into their own led by a future NFL QB and NFL talent at WR, TE, RB, FB, OL, LB, etc. That season the strength of schedule got embarrassingly easier (72nd) and they managed to win one more game than the previous year. That's hardly a turnaround .
