I think this captures differences in approach rather than talent. Do you adapt
your system now in order to capture a couple more wins but suffer in the long-term from not having a coherent identity? I would guess that coaches coming from the coaching world would be more likely to say yes. Coaches coming from the business world would place corporate culture as the primary focus and would have more patience with the process of weeding out the failures until they can attract the talent who can work within their culture.

I really think that this is playing a role. Ty is calling the game based on what he knows should work given proper execution. The fact that we don't have proper execution at multiple spots is glaring, and it is clear where the breakdowns are occurring on any given play. Many on here are suggesting that we need to adapt to the strengths of our players, but I think it is more valuable to have an identity, and be able to recruit players who fit that identity rather than constantly changing systems to fit the players..a.k.a. the Utah Offensive Coordinator theory. It takes patience, but it also makes clear to players that there is no hiding from their mistakes and failures.

On defense, I think the coaches have changed their philosophy to adapt to the players that we have (e.g. does anyone remember Kalani hyping that we would be playing our corners in the receiver's faces?) and have created a system that is fairly indistinguishable from Bronco's with less blitzing involved. They saw what was in the cupboard and adapted to the players in the system. It is effective now, but does it allow us to recruit athletes to play the system that Kalani envisioned rather than the ones who can see themselves in the system we are actually playing? I doubt we would ever be able to recruit them anyway, so I am fine with Kalani acknowledging the status-quo was as good as it was going to get.

I think your post was meant to be denigrating to the coaches without the traditional background, but I think it does capture the difference in philosophical approaches towards managing organizations that arises from the work history.
