He contacted Ty before Kalani was hired.

I posted this article just a two days ago. If you remember they interviewed Ken Niumatalolo before Kalani. The same week Niumatalolo withdrew they offered Kalani. So it happened quick.
According this Detmer was already in talks before KS was interviewed and then he accepted the job before KS was even offered the job.
