Some people believe, for whatever reason, that the players are OK losing.
I mean - after the first couple of loses they suddenly have nothing to play for and we're probably lucky that they even show up at the game the rest of the season. Because, you know, nothing to play for.

I just don't understand the "nothing to play for" mentality. You play the game to win.

And I think more of BYU's players than to assume that once they've lost a couple of games they suddenly have no pride and don't care what happens the rest of the season. If some inconsequential nobody like me is playing to win in a game that doesn't matter, I can't imagine that a D1 athlete who has spent the last 15-20 years of his life being one of the best players on his team and fanning that competitive fire would suddenly decide that it just doesn't matter any more.
