I'm being nit-picky only cuz I agree with your assessment mostly. And w/ BYU's rigid hiring practices, this was bound to happen in both sports. That's the real problem here--even moreso than our clear recruiting disadvantages (which aren't helped by the lingering perception of Mormon racism--which at least is finally showing signs of waning).
As someone who loves BYU--but have wished it to be a more liberal, open university since my student days--it's becoming particularly painful to watch us get even more rigid & insular at the same time we go out & hire a personality like Kalani Sitake. A guy who could otherwise deliver us into a new era, quite possibly.
