The question should be why multiple losses to P5s are better than multiple losses to G5s. I personally thinks it looks better to lose to Wisconsin in a game that isn't close, than it looks to lose to CSU or Utah St. And if we had played the same way against one of those teams we would have lost. Not by as much, but we are not playing winning football right now, and some want to blame the schedule.
