The problem is i don't think it's going to be
about conferences as much as it will be about individual schools when tv deals are negotiated the next go 'round.
The second thing is - I don't like playing down...who do you look forward to playing every year? It's like parents holding back their kids in school so they can dominate in jr / sr high.
You are also supposing BYU won't take a hit in recruiting. Many of our starters had offers from P5 schools...they choose BYU because it's the environment that they want AT THE SAME LEVEL / CLASS as their P5 offers....or at least very, very close. If we step down to G5 conference - we won't continue to win the same level of recruits on the top end of each class. We'll be lucky to see a BCS / NY's game more than once a couple decades...yet we will have erased the opportunity to play 4-6 P5's a year.

At the very least - we need to wait it out and see if P5 conferences blow up withnext tv negotiations. The very top may form their own league with unequal shared revenue or hold the other members hostage to agree to unequal revenue splits. many may go Indy with the advancement of broadcasting technology to focus on top tier of college teams. The rest may scream for the opportunity to invite someone like BYU. I can tell you there are fans in B12 / SEC...that think the B12 sealed their fate when they didn't invite us lay go round...regardless of political pressure from liberals.

We'll see, Holmoe / BYU have said they hear us loud and clear - "our fans want in a P5 conference" if they thought G5 was the only long term plan - my guess is the phone calls would have been made.
