Reality about BYU recruiting skilled players

Since I've been watching the Cougs, early 70's, i can name all of the WR's and CB's that have gone on to play in the NFL and get on on roster and make plays on Sunday. BYU has had many QB's go on to star, linemen, LB's, etc.

Collie was the best of the tiny bunch. If he had stayed healthy, I think he'd have been all-pro. Glen Kozlowski played 7 years for the bears, but mostly as a special teams player. Todd Watkins saw some reps. And now Jordan Leslie. the point is, Leslie was not a BYU recruit, but a UTEP recruit, and Watkins was a JC transfer. Have I missed any?

The CB list is even shorter. McTyer, JC trans, played a bit, but I think as a nickel back, same with Holmoe. Michael Davis is a true corner, and a true BYU recruit. By comparision, LSU has had 17 DB's drafted since 2009. BYU has had some good safeties play on Sunday.

BYU is at a bit of a disadvantage. I think Kalani and co. began their regime at BYU with the first goal of building the line. That's were it all starts. Think of last year, two of our starter were transfers from SUU. SUU! So the line needs re-building, and Kalani is a fantastic recruiter! he'll soon have a better OL and DL than utah's. He's responsible for a lot of the lines the utes had cause he recruited many of the Poly boys. We should know as many LDS, RM type of reciuts chose utah over us through the years. That is changing. Last year BYU got at least 4 Poly recruits that in the past would have gone to the pukes!

I think in a few years, our lines will be legit big boy lines. Who's our best DL? Tonga? a ute recruit, by Kalani. Imagine a DL with 6 of those type of players. That's the future.

Kalani's and Company's real test will be whether they'll be able to recruit the skilled non-LDS players, that can live the LDS rules. Time will tell, but so far, he's doing a better job than any coach I have previously seen in 40 plus years. But it'll still be tough

I grew up in the Bay Area in California. Played HS football. Was the only LDS kid in the school. By buddies, teamates on the team had a three-tract mind, play football, party, get laid. I imagine it hasn't changed. I had a buddy who could have gotten a full ride to BYU, but when he heard he couldn't have sex, he said screw that!

It will always be a uphill battle at BYU for the non-LDS players.
