It's denial. We're disappointed too, but we've progressed on to acceptance.
There's some bargaining going on also.
You see it here all the time, and while I was in these stages of grief I thought the same way:
BYU just hasn't played up to its potential. Key injuries have held us back. We need to be ready for that call when a P5 wants us, and don't want to regress. We are better than a G5 program. There is no significant difference between our program and top national programs. We are better than many P5 teams. We may be down right now but we are a better program than X. We need to stay indy to compete with our in state rival. Etc Etc Etc, rinse wash repeat.
