Play calling ideas
I played some Madden 2017 Mobile tonight and had a few play calling ideas that I think could help:

1. Curls all day. Unless the defense is dropping 8 in a cover 2, it's pretty much impossible to cover the triple curl route. Not sure why Ty hasn't picked up on this.

2. To mix it up, angled curls when curved curls won't do. Everyone skilled in x's and o's knows that you can do sort of a "curly" curl, and a harder "angled" curl. If you run the same play two or three times in a row, the defense catches on and becomes capable of stopping the play by getting a sack in about .01325 seconds. BUT, it's pretty easy to trick the defense by just switching from the curly curls to the angled curls. ALWAYS KEEP THE DEFENSE GUESSING.

3. Never throw over the middle. It's just too mucky in there. If you aren't doing curls, give me 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 yard outs. Even 45, 50, 55 yard outs could work.

4. DRAW PLAYS NEVER WORK. If you insist on running on 3rd and 23, probably best to do a Heck Mary (more on this below) and then have the QB scramble and run. Probably about 40% effective.

5. Strategic use of the Heck Mary. First, an aside. When I was a freshman in 2003, I literally heard someone in the crowd yell, "Throw a Heck Mary!!" I thought it was a joke, but the guy looked a lot like Dwight Schrute so I think he was serious. Anyway, it seems to me that the ol' Heck Mary has a success rate of around 50% (give or take 10% depending on the strength of your defense). So worst case, we're looking at a 40% success rate. PLUS, the Heck Mary worked to great effect for Tanner in 2015 when he was the future best BYU QB of all time.

6. Onside kicks. My Madden research indicates around a 33% success rate. Not great, I know. BUT HEAR ME OUT. So far this year, our chance of getting a defensive stop can be calculated using the following formula: (100 - (the yard line they start on)) * 0. For the purposes of this calculation, the "yard line they start on" should be done on a scale of 0-100, so that if they start on their own 20, it's 20, but if they start on our 40, it's 60. So, if we kick it and they start on the 5 yard line, our chance of a defensive stop = (100-5) * 0 = 0. If we attempt an onside kick it and fail and they start on our 40 or 45, the chance of a defensive stop = (100-60) * 0 = 0. So either way, our chance of getting a defensive stop is 0. So we have nothing to lose by attempting an onside kick. BUT WAIT, you say. Our chance of getting a touchdown on offense is also zero, so what difference does it make if we recover onside kicks? If we stayed the course on offense, you'd be right. But if we adopt the play calling practices set forth herein, we have the potential to score three touchdowns in each quarter! And I was playing 2 minute quarters, so really, we could get something like 5-7 touchdowns each quarter! Imagine that - we could get like 20 touchdowns in one game on 15 minute quarters!!

Hope this helps our staff. We can still turn this season around!
