If you invest in a total stock market index fund, you are investing in the US
and your bet is on the long term US growth. Now, it may be relatively expensive, but I would not get out of investing in the US at this point. You could maybe shift to different sectors, but that is a guess unless you really know the markets.

Another option is international funds or local investing through things like lending club, real estate, hard money lending, or angel investing in small companies.

However, I don't think I would ever wholly get out of US stocks. I might move a little out but my plan is based on %s and I'll stick to my target.
