Why require Poster A to ignore Poster B in order to block Poster B?

I understand this compromise solution grew out of the “recip ignore” idea. But if Poster B is still going to be able to see Poster A’s posts, why must Poster A not be able to see Poster B’s posts?

The “ignore” idea seems different from the “you cannot react to this post” idea, yet they seem unnecessarily linked right now.

I’m sure there’s a good reason I’m not considering.
