4 things I saw yesterday that tell me these coaches aren't the answer:
1. UMass has a really bad Rush D. They were ranked 102 previous to last week. 36 against the pass. Squally and the Oline are coming off of their best ground game of the year, Squally a top 10 ever performance in rush yards.

So what is Ty's game plan? Start the game with 3 straight passes. Throw the ball 45 times with your freshman QB and only give Squally 11 touches. Truly, incredibly frustrating. We had strength on weakness which as a coach you salivate over and we didn't take advantage. So bad.

2. Wildcat with Kafentzis. First of all, he only saw the field once that I can remember and it was not in the wildcat. He was used in pass pro i believe. All bloody year we run the wildcat and he NEVER throws. There are two key advantages to wildcat. First is to have all 11 guys on the field used in the run game, you gain an extra blocker. Second is the threat of the occasional pass or some type of gadget play. We have not once taken advantage of the second key. Add in that our wildcat runner is a FORMER QB and it becomes infuriating.

BYU desperately needed a spark in the first half. Something to get the sideline believing, to give the offense momentum. Mind boggling.

3. Our Wide Receivers are pathetic. Our routes are lazy and not sharp, we catch with our bodies, we wait for the ball to come to us, we don't try and get the ball at its highest catch point, we don't create separation often enough. When the QB scrambes we often jog or stand around instead of bolting back to him or downfield depending on the scenario. On key 3rd and 4th downs our guys don't extend their routes to reach the first down.

We have some talent there, but it's all a mess. It's really, really bad. Worst of all, it's not improving near enough. Ben Cahoon absolutely needs to be let go.

4. With 20 something seconds left in the first half, BYU is finally threatening to score. I've been in a locker room at half when nothing is going right. It sucks. I've been in a locker room where mostly nothing has gone right, BUT we threw one nice counter punch before half. The difference in the locker room and the mentality of the team is a stark difference. Down 0-3 BYU desperately needs something. 4th and 6 or 7 comes around. In my opinion, the risk reward so go for it. If you don't get it, your opponent still has to drive a good distance with very little time. They likely run out the clock. But if you get the 6 yards, your team is fired up. They feel that their aggression is overwhelming the other team. If you end up with 3 points, you get the best of the opponent right before half and put yourself on a level playing field for the second half. If you score a TD you establish dominance and create a feeling that you can carry into the locker room and into the 3rd Q.

But Kalani elected to take a penalty and punt. He took the cowards way out. At that point, I sat in the stands and knew inside we didn't have what it would take to win that game. I hated that call. He gave up on his team and they gave up on him thereafter.

I don't see this getting much better sadly. We are in trouble next year. We have rough road schedule and will lose a couple early games. With Independence, our coaches have to manufacture motivation that a conference slate, rivalry and chance at a CC would otherwise provide. They haven't shown the ability to do this. We need a change at HC, OC or Conference immediately IMO.
