A few years back, BYU was on the road playing Middle Tenn State. I noticed a visibly weary BYU coach up on the stand for the fireside. After the fireside, I said to him, "It looks from a fan's perspective that you are done with BYU." I might have been wrong but at least I said it to BM's face. I didn't question his coaching ability or his penchant to stick to one or two plays every game to start the game out with or the fact that we always got up for the first game of the season when we had 7 months to prepare but failed in the next 3-4 games...why? Because I am an aging pop superstar not a football genius. Some of you should take note.

These past few weeks I have watched the temperature climb on this message board and it got me thinking. Who of you would tell KS that he sucks at coaching or tell Ty to his face that he can't coach? I could count on two fingers those that have the chutzpah to do that. Most of you are whipping each other up into a mob frenzy over things you know so very little of...because, there is not a football program in America (outside of Alabama) that could win when:

* down to their 4th string quarterback five months removed from an LDS mission.

* Squally, Kavika, KJ, Ula, Try, Riley, etc. are a revolving door at running back. Running backs need touches and consistency to be effective. We have not had that due to injury and suspension.

* an offensive line is still making mistakes like false starts at the end of the season (also has to do with 4th qb used)-but is still a sieve.

* 37 players including many starters missed significant time due to injury

I don't mind the well thought out criticism but most of what is spouted here is nonsense. "Kalani has given up." Whatever. "Ty Detmer is clueless." Ty could make play calls in his sleep better than you and your EQ could if you got together for 10 years straight studying the game. "Tom Holmoe needs to clean house." Ridiculous.

Phil Jackson didn't win titles with the Raptors or the Hornets. Nick Saban wins with 5 stars. As our talent improves, it will align with the coaching and we will win. Anyone who thinks any other coach under equal conditions would have done better is wrong.
