and assist with recruiting. Say what you want (sit down ALUFs), the BYU athletic programs are a major missionary tool and also provide major content to BYUtv, which is a multi-million dollar asset in and of itself. Perhaps BYUtv needs to start paying the BYU athletic department for the major content that they provide, but I digress. The brethren need to stop being neutral with regard to BYU athletics and start providing the support (both voice and resources) to elevate its prominance. The Church leadership needs to give a little bit of love to the athletes who carry the banner of BYU and the Church and do missionary work. So much attention and resources are provided to furthering missionary work, but for some strange reason the brethren are afraid of offending a few ALUFs and Aggies that they sit on their hands (and $ resources) and seem afraid to develop and grow a major missionary tool and asset. Gordon B. Hinckley himself said it is, so don't even try to debate the point - sit down! It is shameful that BYU basketball was the last program in the state to get a practice facility. Bring back the spirit of LeGrand Richards, who showed up unannounced at the home of Scott Runia one night in 1976, slammed his fist down on the coffee table in the living room and said: "darn it, the Lord wants you at BYU!"
