The ONLY reason BYU is independent and playing the kind of schedule they are is because the ARE committed. They are committed to being P5 - or doing their best to at least approximate it.
They have no control over whether or not they are invited to a P5 conference. Joining a G5 means that they are committed - to G5. All of the "fans" who insist they want BYU to be P5 and then cry when BYU doesn't join a G5 need to re-evaluate what it is that they really want.
