I know for a fact that BYU gets top professors from all over the country--professors that could be or were in Ivy League, MIT, CIT, etc level. They are paid less than they could earn elsewhere because they recognize that it is a privilege to work at BYU. They don't see it as a stepping stone. They see it as a tremendous opportunity.
I would take half of what I'm earning now to come teach at BYU. My wife has taught at UW, Florida, et al and nothing comes close to her experience teaching at BYU either.
Don't undersell BYU or assume all we can get are the scraps. It simply is not true. Not everyone believes that the best job is the one that pays the most money.
