The Polynesian Perfect Storm be careful what you wish for
The Perfect Storm ,

Everyone remembers the story of the Andrea Gale in 1991 when 3 raging weather front's collide and claimed the lives of six fishermen off the coast of Massachusetts the Movie was called The Perfect Storm

First let me say I'm sick about how Ty Detmer was let go , Ty is my favorite all time BYU football player and he deserved better Ty was not looking for a job. Tom Holmoe went and recruited him and talked him into coming. Ty should have had one more year to turn the offense around , he had the perfect storm against him with injuries and yes being inexperienced.

I hope they keep Ty as the QB coach and I think that is the plan from everyone I have talked to. The new OC has to Agree and I can't emagin him not wanting Ty to stay as a QB Coach and for recruiting. I talked to someone very close to Ty recently and he said it is a definite possibility.

I dont agree with letting Kalani go in fact I think it would be the single biggest mistake BYU Football could ever make , and I would be carful what you wish for. The Polynesian community is very tight and BYU has to be very careful as not to offend the entire community.

In the 70s 80s and early 90s we dominated landing the top Poly Tallent in the state of Utah and Hawaii.
As time went on other colleges caught on including the University of Utah and our pipeline started to shrink.

When Kyle Whitingham took over the program he understood how important the poly community was to his program and invested heavily in hiring coaches and making inroads , and those inroads have paid off 10 Fold. Where would Utahs Football program be today without the Polynesians ?

In my opinion BYU will never be great again without a heavy Polynesian presence. BYU does not have access to Great LDS White linemen there just are not enough of them. Games are won in the trenches on the offensive and defensive lines. Just take a look at how many University of Utah Polynesian football players have been drafted into the NFL. Polynesian football players are 28 times per capita more likely to be drafted in the NFL then any other racial group.

I'm not saying Kalani can't ever be fired , I'm just saying he deserves to get every benefit of the doubt and then some to succeed or we will lose the Polynesian community for generations to come.

The Poly community will understand if BYU let's him go only if he is treated fairly.

I have had talks with Coaches and one very high ranking administrator about this and they understand this more than you know.

Just my 2 cents take it for what it's worth not very much...

2017 turned out to be the perfect storm
