I don't know that the gap is overwhelming, but it is somewhat wide. Utah is
closer to USC than they are to BYU.
Utah and BYU both get up for the game, but you also have to account for Whittingham ball especially early in the season. When Whitt gets a lead he plays ultra conservative and has dared BYU to try to score late in games. 2016 was the only time in recent years that BYU has succeeded in actually mounting a late game score. Against lesser competition Whitt always does this.

No. I just think that an overwhelming advantage wouldn't produce the closest games between any two teams in the country.
