Yep
I was in elementary school too and was on the school bus stopped at an intersection. The light turned red and the sixth grader saw the light change to green for him and immediately entered the intersection. But a car ran the light that just turned red. I was just casually looking out the window but saw the whole thing happen. The kid got thrown in the air and spun around several times before hitting the pavement and then was motionless.

Our school but driver got out to help render first aid along with a couple of other people that witnessed the accident. I could see his bloody mangled body in the middle of the intersection. We were there for about 30 minutes while the bus driver told the police officer what occurred after paramedics arrived.

The kid survived but had a long recovery. And, he wasn’t really ever the same again mentally - he was a bit slow after that.

This happened probably about 35 years ago but I still remember some of those key images as if it just happened. Still makes me feel a bit sick when I think about it.
