I find the grad student transfer debate interesting. Seems to be fairly split
which interests me. A couple of observations. I often find myself on here on the side of the folks who dislike the elitist attitude that comes from BYU grads. For instance how much CB loves to bash on BYU Idaho, or that BYU-Provo waters down the brand or make fun of UVU students who couldn't get into BYU, etc....it's the old Lenny Gomes quip about pumping gas. We like to hang our hat on the academics here, on the fact that BYU has academic standards that others do not. We play that card any chance we get, especially with the UofU, and it's a great card to have. Now it seems we want to have it both ways. In this particular case it seems we want to ignore our academic standards when it benefits us.

I know dozens of students denied entry into BYU over academics. I know several athletes who during the recruiting process couldn't get their grades in shape to attend, and it was heartbreaking for them to end up elsewhere over academics. I've seen it play out. I've never wished BYU would lower their standards in any of those cases.

Have athletes got in despite academic shortcomings, I'm sure they have. I've seen students with lower academics get in over higher academic kids.

I don't know enough about this particular case to really have an opinion. I am however a little tired of people bashing the admin daily, whether its the HC, or now academic standards. I think we just need to let them do their job. They know a lot more about each individual case than any of us.

What is BYU without an HC and without academic standards?
