but in addition, on an on-going basis we would to to visit them on a Saturday evening and while chatting, one of us would discreetly slip into the kitchen (where the utility closet was located) and turn the hot water heater to the "vacation" mode. The next morning we would see them at church and they would be all upset about a roommate using all the hot water before they could shower. We would then visit that afternoon and (again, without being noticed) re-set the dial to it's normal setting. Went on for almost a semester. Boy, were they mad when we admitted the truth....
