Having spent the last couple decades in teh Midwest and South, I know how much college sports are a part of the culture. It isn't the same in Utah, or even the Pac-10. To many of my friends, even members, Sunday baseball and basketball games are family activities that are wholesome Sunday entertainment for family togetherness. While I have heard reports to the contrary, I am not quite so willing to think it is a non-issue. The Big-12 may very well approach BYU thinking it was negotiable, where it really isn't.
Yes, they could negotiate around it, but if we are honest with ourselves, what does BYU bring to the table that makes it necessary to do so?
